Coastal Redwoods
We had a great time seeing the Redwoods! On the 22nd we arrived at Jedediah Smith State Park and stopped in the visitor center to plan some hikes. We did a short nature walk on the Simpson-Reed Trail and got to see some very large Redwoods. Many were standing, and many were fallen. The next day we did a long hike on a few trails. We started from our campground a mile from the park so that added a little extra distance, but it was worth it. We walked along Mill Creek trail until it intersected with Howland Road, which we followed until we got to Boy Scout Tree Trail. We walked through the Grove of Titans along one of the trails and saw some massive trees. It was super quiet and beautiful, we didn’t really see anybody until we reached Boy Scout Tree Trail. On the way back we stopped at the Smith River and relaxed for a bit, and Ryan claimed that must’ve been the spot where Deer Park got their water, because it was so clear! Another huge highlight was having campfires each night and making hot dogs and s’mores. It brought back memories of all the times we would go camping as a family when we were kids.
